Jumps racing at Huntingdon 5/10/2021

I had to delete my first selection as it opened up at a ridiculously low price.

3:05 Huntingdon 2m "Peterborough Chase Day" Sunday 5th December Novices' Hurdle Class 4 4yo+

Of the six likely runners in this competition only half the field have encountered hurdles on the racecourse before. Of the three that have jumped a hurdle in anger Island Nation has easily the best form on show.

Having already deleted one selection today I will not write much about this horse as there is a fair chance I will have to delete the selection due to the price that will be released by the bookies when Galata Bridge is probably withdrawn.

He has raced three times this season so far all at Perth over two miles finishing 133 in a class 5, a class 2 then a class 4.

The 7lb penalty in this race for his win is basically negated by a 7lb claimer being in the saddle called Lewis Stones.

He is being tried in sheepskin cheek pieces for the first time which may bring on improvement.

3:40 Huntingdon 2m7½f Clive Graham Memorial Novices' Handicap Chase Class 5 4yo+ 0-105

This one really looks like a race between two horses Railway Muice and Achy Breaky Heart.  Railway Muice is a good horse who won very impressively last time out over fences.  I do however feel the 12lb raise is really going to cramp his style.

Achy Breaky heart had a good cruising speed last time over 3m2f and jumped well on her 5th start over fences. She made a mistake near the end and it knocked the wind out of her a bit and she got into a gritty battle with the eventual winner and only lost by 1 1/4 lengths. Although she was 2lb lighter than the winner on the handicap O’Faolains Lad’s jockey was claiming an additional 4lb compared to Mitchell Bastyan. That would have put O’Faolains Lad ahead by 2lb in the weights. She finished about 20 lengths ahead of third so they had gone well clear at the finish.

She won her previous chase which was also over 3m2f chase by 2 lengths even though she hit the last.  She stayed the same rating for her win. Previously the handicapper had reduced her chase mark from 93 seemingly to give her a chance which explains his decision.

The long and short of it all is that this mare is running off a low race weight after suffering no rise for her last win over fences and has a better rider on board time.

Paddy Brennan who is one of my favourite riders is a definite upgrade to the claimer who guided her around last time.

I preferred the 5/2 I was working to compared to the 7/4 now available but it is still a good bet.

4:50 Huntingdon 2m3½f Boxing Day On Sale Now Handicap Hurdle Div II Class 5 3yo+ 0-100

I have recommended two of these recently with Sixties Secret and No worries both coming second.

No Worries got in to all kinds of trouble last time and still came second and is worth backing again.  He is coming out again super quick so that would suggest Neil Mulholland thinks No Worries is in great form and could have won. It is not because he is trying to beat a rating rise as he did not receive one last time.

He had won the previous two races well enough to inspire me to recommend him last time. I am running low on time now so I have to shorten this entry somewhat.

5:20 Huntingdon 3m1f Racing TV Handicap Hurdle Class 4 3yo+ 0-120

Another horse I have recommended recently is out again on Tuesday. I could see he was in form and annoyingly I somehow missed him for his win.

Presenting Yeats was given a strong ride by Paddy Brennan off bottom weight to win by ¾ length over 3m1f in a class 4 last time. With only a 3lb rise he races off bottom weight again just inside the handicap on Tuesday and he has a great chance. He did everything that was asked of him last time and did well with his hurdling.

It would not surprise me to see more progression.  This distance runner has been in great form the last 5 races coming 3rd 3 times and winning twice.

Paddy has had to move across to Fergal O’Brien’s horse Blue Sans meaning James Best is riding him again. James won on him the last time he rode him so knows the job ahead.

Milton Harris his trainer is in awesome form with a 31% win to runs ration in the last 14 days.  He has had 4 wins from 13 runs.
