3.30 Cartmel 2m1 ½ f Handicap Chase Class 2 4yo+
The well-bred Tonto’s spirit has been progressing nicely and I see no reason why he would not have improved again for his last run. He is receiving almost 2 stone from Hatcher and I feel that is too big a difference for the latter to cope with.
Tonto’s Spirit has a 50 % win rate for the course, a 38% win rate for the distance, and a 31% win rate on the ground. He also has the highest racing post rating and top speed ratings in the race. He has won at Cartmel 5 times.
The trainer’s rep said that the reason the gelding performed below expectations last time over fences was because the horse was not allowed to dominate under top weight on that occasion. In the race before that he just lost out in a class 2 by ½ length to Solar Impulse in a good time over 2m5f. He won a Class 4 2m 1 ½ f at Cartmel the time before that by 9 ½ lengths again in a good time. He also won a Class 3 the time before that at 2m 1 1/2f at Cartmel. These races show he has good speed and should have enough stamina to deal with the ten pound penalty accumulated since his last win
Conor O’Farrell is on board which is a plus considering his 23% strike rate riding in chase races this GB season. He has rode him four times this season so knows the horse well. The trainer Dianne Sayer has a good record at Cartmel.

4.05 Cartmel 3m 1 ½ f Handicap Chase Class 2 4yo+ 0-155
Get Out The Gate gets the nod here. He has won his last two races, both of which were over 3m. I don’t think the extra 1 ½ f he will be facing this time will trouble him much even with his latest 6lb rise in the weights is taken in to consideration.
Last time out he destroyed the opposition when he raced in a class 3 chase at Perth over 3 miles winning comfortably by 14 lengths.
Henry Brooke has been on him for both the recent wins so will have a good understanding of the task at hand.

Running off bottom weight Brotherly Company looks too fast for this competition even when his 8lb rise that he has received since his last win is taken in to account.
He won a class 4 over course and distance in a fast time in July showing he had a very fast turn of foot. Last time he once again proved his stamina racing in a class 4 over 3m and was only beaten by ¾ length.
He will really appreciate the drop back in trip and loves the ground. He has won 3 out of the 6 times he has experienced 2m5f.
