Kempton Placepot 22/9/21

Placepot And Quadpot Kempton Wednesday 22 September

Last time at Plumpton we missed out on the Placepot by a nose in the last leg. Literally not figuratively. Let us see if we can do it this time!

Placepot Race 1: Largo Bay

Placepot Race 2: Random Harvest

Quadpot Race 1/Placepot Race 3: Cabrakan

Quadpot Race 2/Placepot Race 4: Smiling Sunflower

Quadpot Race 3/Placepot Race 5: Monitor

Quadpot Race 4/Placepot Race 6: Barn Owl

Largo Bay absolutely scooted up to win a selling race last time out at Lingfield on the all weather.  We can argue about the quality of the opposition but if he can run anywhere near that form it should be enough to get us through to the next leg.

Random Harvest is by War Front who is one of my favourite sires crossed with Pivotal who is another of my favourites. The dam was a good filly winning three listed races at 7f to a mile. War Front progeny love the all weather surface and Pivotal horses are excellent at a mile. Random Harvest should have loads of progression left.  I am not worried by the penalty but I am a little concerned about the long break.  I would be very surprised if this one can’t get placed.

There are only four runners with any form in the third leg of the Placepot and I feel for our purposes it is best to go with one of these. I don’t like Silver Steps so that leaves three to consider. There is good reason to believe that if Cabrakan had not been bumped at the end of his last race he would have won in the same class as this and be carrying a penalty. Without the disadvantage he has a great chance of being placed. On a side note the filly in the race Gatecrasher Girl looks interesting but would have too many variables attached to be the selection.

The fourth race is an interesting Novice stakes. I have removed the unraced horses as there is no proven form. Word on the street says fillies progress this time of year. Smiling Sunflower looks like the best of the fillies in the race. Although excuses can be made for both Golden Warrior and Devaste after they both won well then bit off more than they could chew next time out Smiling Sunflower looks to be on the rise. She has a brilliant weight to run off and has good all weather experience which is more important than it sounds as some horses hate the kickback. 7f was possibly a shade too far at this stage last time. She shaped like a good 6f filly in that race and went clear one furlong out weakening in the final 110 yards. She looks like a strong selection here.

Leg five is difficult to work out but I prefer Monitor as the form from his first race is in my opinion better than the form of Sharesa who would be my second choice. He looked like he coped with the distance better than Sharesa even if the race time was marginally slower. His run at 6f warranted the unusual in running comment of promising and the connections thought enough of him to enter him in to a 1m Listed race last time.  The task was well beyond him but Wednesdays job looks much easier for him.

The last race is a small 5 runner affair with Barn Owl making instant visual appeal. With only two places available I would rather have my hopes resting on this one rather than any of the others as the form from this Frankel colts last four races reads 1221. He handles the all weather surface coming 2nd earlier in his career.

All the selections have been picked for Placepot and Quadpot purposes only and are not tipped for any other use unless highlighted in a different tips section.
