3.05 Ascot 1m6f Harrogate Water B Corp Noel Murless Stakes (Listed Race) (Class 1) (3yo)

The William Haggas 3yo Chalk Stream looks like a worthy favourite.

He is an excellent handicapper.  When he won last time the handicapper basically said you should try listed racing by raising him 11lb for his win.  This will be his first run in listed company and he has the talent to pull it off especially with the ground possibly being against Mandoob who is a very good horse.

Chalk Stream’s latest two wins have been particularly impressive being ran in good times. Two runs ago he was eased down at the finish and last time he won a class 2 easily.

He has no going worries and will relish the trip.

Tom Marquand is in the saddle and has ridden him to win before so will have an understanding of the horse’s capabilities.

4.50 Ascot 7f Berkshire Search & Rescue Dogs (BSARD) Handicap (Class 3) (3yo+ 0-95)

I was looking through Oisin Murphy’s rides for Friday and I think this one has a cracking chance as long as he has recovered from being chucked off by a very unruly horse today.

If the ground goes soft Able Kane will have no problem as he finished second to Mr Wagyu in a class 2 25 runner handicap in July on that surface.

He won last time out in a 6 ½ furlong race that was ran on good ground. He won by ½ length and the time was good.  He was staying on at the end suggesting he will get 7f.

He is nice and progressive and runs well in a big field. He should be a great EW bet.

5.25 Newcastle AW 7f Sky Sports Racing Sky 415 Apprentice Handicap (Class 5) (4yo+ 0-75)

Grant Tuer is a very shrewd trainer and is good at working the handicap in a horses favour. He does very well with his older horses and they generally come on well under his training.

Tommy Taylor looks overpriced and an excellent EW bet.

Progeny of Mizzen Mast run better on the AW than the turf and I suspect Grant is well aware of this fact. His dam has produced two all-weather winners so far.

After changing trainer to Grant he has been doing very well. First time out he came 2nd over 7f in a class 4 event just losing out by 2 ¾ lengths off a mark 1lb higher than Friday. That race was ran in a particularly good time for good going.

Last time he tried a 6f race where he was beaten by his stablemate and came 6th. I think Grant had it right the first time running him at 7f but got a useful comparison with lezardrieux for the run. He looked like a horse that need further and possibly spoiled his chances by rearing in the stalls.

There is a 3lb claimer on board who will give a useful weight advantage called Oliver Stammers. This would mean he has a 4lb advantage over when he came second in a class 4. He will welcome the drop in class to 5.
